Previously I’ve made posts giving tips and telling people to market via video using YouTube. And of course other video sites if you want, but YouTube mainly. So I thought it would be good to actually give an example of a video I’ve made for one of my YouTube channels promoting one of my sites.

So first let me just explain the video. Apart from working on the net I’ve also been learning card magic for about… 5 years, well I say learning for 5 years. I mean I started about 5 years ago, did it avidly for about 2-4 and sort of have not bothered learning much over the past 1 or 2 years. But I’m pretty good and proud of my skills. So, this video is me performing one of my favorite routines called The Invisible Palm. Enjoy….

Hope you liked that :) So, as you can see I’ve placed a watermark link in that video to my site, which you can do easily in most video editing programs. I recommend Sony Vegas. Now that’s quite prominent promotion, it’s very visible and because the context of the video is actually a performance of an art. A form of visual and intellectual entertainment I think it works very well and much better than most video promotion. Also I place a clickable link in all video descriptions. In my opinion that is all you need. Well if you have lots and lots of money and can afford very professional video promotion then do that but for the average marketer I think a link is all you need. Let the quality of the video do the rest.

Now The channel in which I uploaded this to is my ‘magic channel’ promoting my unfinished magic site which is going to be a site made for magicians. Designed to teach some stuff for free and give quality performance for learning purposes as well as offer useful and affordable future products. I’ve got a healthy 395 subscribers to the channel so far, so… not bad for 18 videos.

The site is unfinished, drastically, so I have not been promoting it any other way apart from YouTube for now just to get it somewhat established amongst a group of magicians. I don’t get amazing traffic from the YouTube video promotion for that site, but it is consistent. I added that video like a day ago and it’s already had 180 views and hopefully when I get some more time I can improve the subscriber base with more videos. In total the videos in that channel have had combined views of 109,032 which is very nice.

Here are some main plus points about personal YouTube marketing:

Longevity - Because it’s not copyright content (referring to my magic videos) there is no risk of it getting removed because it’s MY content. Therefore they will be there for however long I want to leave them there. And as the site gains more momentum I can use the site to leverage the channel itself, it’s very prolific.

Originality - Make sure if you’re promoting a site long-term and you plan to create a lucrative long-term YouTube channel to promote that site that nothing you upload is copyright. If it’s like a fansite or something… sure risk it, but if it’s very popular music or video don’t be surprised if you get too big and end up banned. Which will destroy all your hard work for that channel.

So, anyone who has a personal site. A site which can be promoted someway productively via video, I urge you to start recording some great media, edit it well and start uploading!
