Blog About What You Love
Posted on October 16th, 2007 by IBabel under BloggingIf you’re blogging about something. Realistically, you should be passionate about whatever that is. Blogging about something you know NOTHING about or have no interest in, is a bad idea because usually, people who do this; fail to see instant success… and quit.
They lose interest very quickly because they were blogging to try and make quick money, so they choose a ‘hot’ topic, not one they actually love to write about.
It’s fine to want to make money from your blog. But there has to be a core element of passion and some element of knowledge to what you write about in order to stop you from getting bored whilst your blog is in it’s developing stages.

That’s very true. My most successful blog at the moment is my gardening blog, which is a new-found passion for me. It also has good potential to earn me some real money. But the first thing I did was find a topic that I was interested in. If I was earning nothing from it I would still want to maintain it.
I find my level of knowledge is increasing week by week. This happens naturally as I encounter problems and then find the solutions, making the blog more valuable to visitors as time goes by.

I just wanted to tell you that I admire your honesty online. I have read most of your content and I think your have real character, which is hard to find today. Perhaps you could stop by my blog and leave a comment, as you would most likely be the first. I am in no way interested in becoming a professional blogger, I have my eyes set on doing some unique niche type web sites.

Thanks Serge. Actually I am not a blogger at heart. I started online by building niche websites on things I was interested in but still big enough to get good traffic and build quality, targeted content.
This is my first proper blog. But I love writing on blogs, so quick with Wordpress and trying to get a blog where you want it to be is a challenge but fun. And I love a challenge. I’ll check out your blog now.

Yeah Sean, it’s all about constant improvement. Teach what you learn and give value. But placing your opinion within your knowledge, I think is the key to a great blog.

Who’d be happy blogging topics you hate? At least not me!
Thanks for the great read!

Yep. This post was more to the point of… make sure you blog on something which your going to keep blogging on and not get bored of.
Saying that. It is nice to rant about things you hate. Well I like it anyway. Which is an interesting point as I am actually starting a new blog very soon which will… not be on something I hate or love but more on an entire thing I hate and an entire group of things I hate. Not as bad as it sounds… it’ll be fun

My concern when setting up my own blog was the same concern I had when sitting my English GCSEs. I just don’t write enough! I’m far too consice to make any kind of reading fun. My essays these days are drier than a glass of craberry juice in the desert.
Buuuuuut, it turns out this blog IS something im interested in, so it all flows naturally. If this wasn’t something I was interested in, I’d be buggered.
