Google AdSense is Slowly Losing Respect
Posted on January 18th, 2008 by IBabel under Internet Marketing
Isit just me or does anyone else notice AdSense slowly losing webmasters respect.
I mean, don’t get me wrong. They sort have been losing integrity for a good while, not because they’re a bad service but just because AdSense tends to cheapen sites in a way. I mean, personally I like AdSense, it was the original king, current king, is simple and continues to expand and innovate.
But for anyone who may not of heard yet, Google are now stopping anyone who IS NOT a US resident from using the referral program. Why. How stupid.
I completely agree with Darren Rowse’s views on this and I imagine most webmasters’ opinions internationally. It’s a stupid idea.
So why are they preventing publishers from making money with them simply because they are not from America?
I’ll tell you: Because Google say that areas outside of America are not converting as well as they want them to.
They think that they’re not converting as well as US because of some sort of cultural difference in ad perception or something?
Umm… no! It’s more likely to be the fact that the US would obviously convert better due to the majority of AdSense publishers being from there and the majority of visitors to most commercial sites being from there. Therefore the majority of clickthroughs… being from there.
Even if the other countries aren’t converting as well… so what? why lose money. Why lose publishers, trust and just break loyalty with well serving, hard working promoters of your program.
I don’t use AdSense very much at all these days anyway but I still generally love it. But come on Google, why the silly move? I think your AdSense program is slowly losing respect and faith and bigger and better things will out do you unless you stop acting petty.
It sounds ridiculous to say another ad program will out do AdSense. But I don’t think that’s a ludicrous idea. In terms of brand and the search engine frontal… no one can touch Google, fair enough.
But AdSense is targeted specifically to webmasters. And they will soon walk away if you keep pulling self-indulgent stunts like this big G!

Interesting, I just wrote a post about how AdSense seems to be on the downfall. Mine is more focused on other aspects, and not exactly the referral program though. You can read it here: http://jaystips.com/is-adsense-on-its-way-down/

I agree 100%. They still send checks, but they are losing a bit of respect imho. Almost like they are asleep at the wheel.

I think in the blogosphere they are losing respect and credibility, but for webmasters who operate traditional websites, they perform very well with good CTR because the majority of the users aren’t other bloggers or webmasters. For example, arcade games websites, celebrity websites, streaming video websites, where the webmaster has the ads set for both text and image, they perform quite well.
