Google PR Update Coming

September 26th, 2007 IBabel Leave a comment Go to comments

I know a lot of webmasters have been getting anxious lately about the next Google PR update. Well supposedly the delay has been due to Google finishing up on their Universal Search and Webmaster Tools. But it should be coming very soon.

To be honest I couldn’t care much about PageRank at all. I mean… I stay aware of what my PR’s are but I don’t really care or focus on it. As long as you continue to add great targeted content to your site then PR will take care of itself. Forget about it.

It’s not really important either, it’s just become a fixation in people’s minds as if it’s a competition. I’ve seen high traffic sites with low PR, who cares. It’s a very small determination of a sites individual worth in my opinion. I mean, it gives you an idea on how much traffic a site gets and what the search engine results are like for it and all that, but it’s not really important.

Focus on making your site a quality place to visit. A quality resource for everyone in your niche. A targeted goldmine. Do not fixate on PageRank and do not fixate on improving it. Just fixate on quality content and it will happen.

I totally agree. You should care about traffic, conversions or whatever else is relevant for your site.

Perhaps if you have what you consider to be a quality site but you only end up with a very low page rank it could be an indicator of structural and technical issues the site may be suffering from, which you could investigate further but that should probably be as much as you worry.

I’ve never understood why Google page rank is so important. What about Yahoo or MSN page rank (or whatever they call it)? I can’t ever remember hearing anything about that before.

Personally I’m working at going Google free, or at least as Google free as I can. If you to my site and do a site search for “quitting google” you should find the article. Part of the reason for my decision is how overrated I believe this whole page rank thing to be.
