Very interesting post. I am in the process of researching content for my third e-book and yes, it is time consuming.
I can definitely see an advantage to contracting some of your writing jobs out. It would absolutely save time!

I think outsourcing content creation depends on the type of web site you have. For example, I’m a freelance web designer and developer and the goal of my site is to establish myself as knowledgeable and make myself marketable to my visitors. That means any blog post, podcast, or other piece of content should come from me - because if it doesn’t, then I’m not really portraying myself.
Besides, social networks and forums, I actually have trouble envisioning exactly when you would want to pay the price of not being the author of the content (and thus a perceived expert). Can you give some examples? If you were running a business wouldn’t you want your employees to be the most knowledgeable and thus able to generate content that brings in new customers?

Content creation can now be outsourced quite easily. There are many forums dedicated to webmasters, where one could contract out a writer for various projects. I have done it myself a few times and the costs is moderate.
I have not outsourced content for my main blog (Groovy Vegetarian.com) but plan on doing it, as recently i am “procrastinating” quite abit, and dont want my blog to suffer for it.
Good tips and i agree with your valid points.
To Arthur: I think that as a web developer/designer, you could outsource SOME of the content on your BLOG, and it would not suffer, nor would you not come across as an expert.
I believe that your design portfolio would speak volumes more than your blog content.
